During her childhood, she attended a performing arts school in Atlanta, Georgia. Ash aspired to be a doctor, graduating from Emory University in Atlanta with a pre-medicine degree and planning to attend medical school. However, after visiting Japan and working as a backing vocalist and runway model, Ash decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

In February 2006, Ash was offered various jobs on Broadway, including The Lion King, as well as a two-week stint in Germany. She successfully auditioned for the cable television comedy show The Big Gay Sketch Show after returning from Germany. Ash was only in the show for two seasons. Ash had to split her time as a cast member between the first season of the sketch show and The Lion King. LaTanya, an unrefined, loudmouthed fitness teacher who conducts classes with a “Chicago-style” twist (i.e. Chicago-style yoga, Chicago-style pilates), was one of her characters.
Ash, along with Matt Braunger, Eric Price, and Lauren Pritchard, joined the MADtv cast in 2008 as a featured performer for the 14th season. She was the fifth African-American female cast member in the show’s history (the first four were Debra Wilson, Daniele Gaither, Nicole Randall Johnson, and Daheli Hall). Ash and Hall are the only two female African-American cast members who were never elevated to repertory roles. During the show’s 14th and final season on FOX, Ash remained a prominent member of the MADtv ensemble.
