She began performing when she was six years old. In 1988, she had her first starring role as Patsy in the film Ernest Saves Christmas. She was a Mouseketeer in The Disney Channel’s reboot of the Mickey Mouse Club (later renamed MMC), where she stayed until the show was canceled in 1994. Alley graduated from Lakeland Senior High School in 1996, two years after the show concluded. Alley continued her education at the University of Missouri, where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre in 2000. Alley also had a brief appearance as Lisa Seltzer on WSL RollerJam in 2002, from midway through the season to the end of the series.
Alley appeared in her own one-woman show, Look, Ma…No Ears!, which she co-wrote with Robert Stein and Stephen Winer. Ben Rimalower directed the play, which opened in April 2006. Alley received an Ovation Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the musical Having It All at the NoHo Arts Centre in Los Angeles in 2011. She returned to the role in the Laguna Playhouse’s March 2013 season. In the same year, she appeared in the episode “No Questions Asked” of How I Met Your Mother.
