Fleischer traveled to San Francisco after graduating from Wesleyan University with a history major, where he worked as a freelance HTML programmer, unsure of what he wanted to accomplish with his life. Fleischer served as a PA in Dawson’s Creek’s writers’ office, following the advice of close friend Mike White (also a Wesleyan graduate). He eventually became a director and worked his way up the ranks, directing music videos and television commercials before landing his first feature film, Zombieland, in 2009. On August 12, 2011, his second film, 30 Minutes or Less, was released in theaters.
Gangster Squad, a 2013 action thriller directed by Fleischer, is based on the LAPD’s special tactical force formed to confront the Los Angeles crime family. He then went on to direct Venom, a film based on the Marvel Comics character Eddie Brock that starred Tom Hardy and was released on October 5, 2018. He directed Zombieland: Double Tap in 2019, reuniting the four original leads. He was hired to direct Uncharted, a film based on the video game franchise of the same name, in February 2020. He was hired to direct Now You See Me 3 in September 2022.
