Christel, who is of mixed ethnicity with African-American, Native American, and European-American ancestry on her mother’s side and Pakistani ancestry on her father’s side, has previously claimed that she identifies as mixed race. Christel revealed in January 2017, after President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 13769, that her father moved from Pakistan, his original country. Khalil is most recognized for her role as Lily Winters on CBS’s soap drama The Young and the Restless. On June 23, 2012, she won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series after receiving four nominations. In August 2018, she announced her decision to discontinue her contract with the show in favor of a regular appearance. Khalil claimed that her decision was motivated by a desire for more independence in both her professional and personal lives. She continued to make irregular cameos on the show until January 2020, when she was approached by current head writer and co-executive producer Josh Griffith to return to regular filming.

Khalil has played minor roles in films such as Dragon Fury, Matilda, Interview with the Assassin, and White Like the Moon. She played Cornelia Hale in W.I.T.C.H. and has appeared on That’s So Raven, Malcolm in the Middle, and other shows. Khalil has appeared in Los Angeles theater performances before winning her job on The Young and the Restless. In 2012, she appeared in Johnny Britt’s music video for his song Beautiful Queen. Khalil co-starred in Good Deed, an independent thriller that premiered on Lifetime in November 2018 under the title Sorority Stalker.
