Young worked at Bouchon Bakery under Sebastien Rouxel and Richard Capizzi after graduating from the Institute of Culinary Education. Later, he accepted a position as pastry chef at Butter. Young studied under Philippe Parc at Michel Cluizel and Philippe Givre at Valrhona in France. Young was promoted to the position of executive pastry chef in 2009 at Flex Mussels, which is located on the Upper East Side. There, he operated a seasonal pop-up donut shop in Grand Central Station.

In 2012, Young was hired as an executive pastry chef by David Burke Group, which later changed its name to Craveable Hospitality Group. Gian Martinez, Young and David Burke Fabrick’s pastry chef, created the PieCaken dessert in 2015. PieCaken is a dish of spice cake, pumpkin pie, and pecan pie that was originally intended to be sold by the slice in restaurants. The layers are held together with cinnamon buttercream and apple pie filling is on top. The piecaken was described as “a fusion of a pumpkin pie, a pecan pie, and an apple upside-down cake” by the Wall Street Journal.
