Benavides began his television career at a young age, on the telenovela El abuelo y yo, alongside Gael Garca Bernal and Ludwika Paleta. Two years later, in 1995, he played Nandito, the long-lost son of Mara la del Barrio, for which he received the 14th TVyNovelas Awards for Best Young Lead Actor. That same year, he appeared as Chicles in the telenovela El premio mayor. In 1996, he co-starred in the telenovela Te sigo amando with Claudia Ramrez and Luis José Santander, and won Best Young Lead Actor at the 16th TVyNovelas Awards. He appeared in the telenovela Preciosa in 1998.
In the year 2000, he appeared in the telenovela Locura de amor, and in the film Por la libre, he played Rocco. In 2001, he appeared in the film Piedras verdes, which is about the protagonist’s philosophical-spiritual awakening. He also appeared in the films La segunda noche and Seres humanos that year. He debuted in Daniela in 2002, and two years later he played Damián in the telenovela Piel de otoo, and in 2006 he played Curioso in the film Un mundo maravilloso. After these last two productions, he took an eleven-year hiatus from telenovelas and acting.
Osvaldo began shooting Noche de Bodas (Wedding Night) in 2022; he will direct and star in the production. On October 12, 2022, two actors, Marco Antonio Curiel Pérez and Luis Manuel Gutiérrez, drowned during a break in filming on Majahual beach in Oaxaca, Mexico. Due to the high tide, the two extras on the set were unable to escape the sea. A third actor was successful in his rescue.
