Melissa Michaelsen Career

She has appeared in numerous television commercials and guest starred in a number of television episodes, including Code Red, Here’s Boomer, The Young Riders, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Melissa appeared in many made-for-TV films, including Orphan Train, Broken Promise, and Goldie and the Boxer flicks. In 1980, Michaelsen played Maxx Davis, the titular character in the sitcom Me and Maxx. Melissa was chosen for the job after an ad featuring Joe Santos ran during one of her early productions. NBC President Fred Silverman spotted the commercial while watching Melissa’s TV movie and reportedly exclaimed, “I want that guy with that girl.” Melissa made her second effort at a network series. Michaelsen garnered positive feedback from both critics and co-stars. The New York Times singled her out in their review of Memories Never Die, in which she costarred with Lindsay Wagner: “The entire supporting ensemble is unusually good, but special mention should be given of young Miss Michaelsen. Her pouting, sulking, resentful Kathy stands in stark contrast to the bright Shirley Temple character she has played in television films such as Goldie and the Boxer. Like Miss Wagner, she is making good progress in her career.” Television journalist Jerry Buck reported Melissa’s co-star Joe Santos as stating, “She’s a terrific actress and a wonderful human being,” before praising her work ethic.

Michaelsen made two further efforts at series television. In 1981, she shot a pilot for CBS. The event was an effort to air the film Little Darlings on television. It never aired. Melissa made another pilot in 1984, playing Stella Stevens’ youngest daughter in the western No Man’s Land. Terri Garber and Donna Dixon played the other two sisters. The show was not taken up, but the pilot was aired as a two-hour television film. Aside from acting, she has given public speeches in her adolescence.
