She won Miss Illinois after two unsuccessful pageant attempts, Miss North Carolina and Miss Illinois, allowing her to advance to Miss America. She won the Miss America pageant by performing Chopin’s Fantaisie-Impromptu (Op. posth. 66) and was crowned Miss America 1991 on September 7, 1990, succeeding Debbye Turner. Her victory was the first time there were back-to-back African American Miss America winners. Bert Parks serenaded the last Miss America, Vincent. Vincent, who had already completed two years of law school at Duke University before becoming Miss America, switched from international law to television journalism in October 1993, becoming a news anchor at WGBC in Meridian, Mississippi. Later in her career, she worked for WHOI in Peoria, Illinois, and the Ohio News Network in Columbus, Ohio. Vincent earned her J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, FL. She has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2011 and previously worked for the Attorney General’s Office in Daytona Beach, Florida. She is currently employed as an ADA in Alabama.
