He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he majored in communication and history, but after two years in college, he joined the United States Army.

Moore served two tours of duty in Vietnam, with the Army’s 25th Infantry Division in Cu Chi and the American Forces Vietnam Network in Saigon, with close friend Pat Sajak. Moore moved to Hawaii in 1969 and began working as a sports anchor for KGMB, where he was mentored by news director Bob Sevey. Moore moved to KHON-TV, Hawaii’s NBC affiliate at the time, after nine years on the market’s dominant news team at KGMB. Within a few years, KHON had surpassed KGMB as Hawaii’s top-rated station, a position it continues to occupy. Moore’s contract as primary news anchor at KHON-TV was extended for a further ten years in 2008.

Moore has starred in two independent feature pictures, Goodbye Paradise (1991, with James Hong and Pat Morita) and Moonglow (2000), co-starring Milo O’Shea and Joanna Cassidy. He has appeared in several episodes of Hawaii-based network television shows, including Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I., Jake and the Fat Man, One West Waikiki, and Tour of Duty. Moore has also appeared in live theater shows. He has frequently co-starred alongside his old friend, television broadcaster Pat Sajak. Moore played the slovenly Oscar Madison in the Neil Simon play The Odd Couple, which they performed together in 2001 and 2012 at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre. In 2004, they co-starred in a theatrical rendition of The Honeymooners.

In 2010, they appeared together in Bernard Sabath’s play The Boys in Autumn at the Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu. In 2014, they co-starred in the dramatic comedy Wrestling Ernest Hemingway, based on the 1993 film, which played at the Hawaii Theatre. Moore authored and performed in the 2007 film Prophecy and Honor, which costarred Richard Dreyfuss and George Segal. Moore costarred opposite Patty Duke in “Heaven Forbid!”, based on the BBC series Waiting for God, which premiered at the Hawaii Theatre in 2013. In June 2015, he played James Wicker in the first post-Broadway production of Terrence McNally’s comedy, It’s Only a Play, at the Hawaii Theatre, alongside Linda Purl and Cathy Foy.
