Fisher began their career at the age of six, appearing in a 2009 episode of the NBC spooky thriller Medium. From 2009 until 2012, they voiced Masha in the English dub of the Russian animated children’s series Masha and the Bear. Fisher rose to prominence after portraying Agnes in the animated comedy films Despicable Me (2010) and Despicable Me 2 (2013). However, they did not appear in the third film of the series. Fisher played a supporting role in the sports drama film McFarland, USA, which was released in February 2015. Fisher had appeared in more than sixteen national ads by March 2016.
Fisher gained critical acclaim in 2018 for her role as socially awkward adolescent girl Kayla Day in comedian Bo Burnham’s directorial debut, Eighth Grade. Fisher received multiple praises for her performance, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. After filming Eighth Grade, they started high school but were not cast in their school play. In 2019, they voiced Parker Needler in The Addams Family, an animated dark comedy film. They played Joy Wilkes, Annie Wilkes’ daughter, in the second season of Castle Rock, a Hulu anthology horror series. In 2022, Fisher joined the cast of HBO’s dark comedy series Barry for its third season.
