Gower began his acting career as a five-year-old child. His first significant role was as Brooks Prentiss on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, which ran from 1981 to 1982. He went on to guest star on The A-Team, T. J. Hooker, and The Wizard. In 1986, he co-starred alongside Piper Laurie in the Twilight Zone episode “The Burning Man”. In 1987, Gower appeared in the comedy/horror film The Monster Squad. Later same year, he appeared in two seasons of the Fox series Mr. President alongside George C. Scott. From 1988 to 1989, Gower played a recurrent role on The Hogan Family. Gower is presently coaching performers and others entering the entertainment industry.
On November 5, 2014, Gower appeared on Ken Reid’s TV Guidance Counselor Podcast. Since 2016, Gower and fellow castmate Ryan Lambert co-host the Squadcast w/Ryan & Andre Podcast for Fitterpiper Entertainment. The podcast covers The Monster Squad, other films, and conventions that Gower and Lambert attend in support of the franchise and its legacy. In 2018, Gower produced and directed a documentary about the legacy.
On July 3, 2021, Gower nearly died from a huge heart attack while playing tennis with a friend. Gower needed a pacemaker implanted in his heart. “My right coronary artery was completely occluded with a massive blood clot… Apparently, according to the individuals who operated on me and the superb cath lab team, we arrived with about 10 minutes to spare,” Gower said in a Facebook video posted from his hospital bed. A GoFundMe page was created to assist pay for Gower’s medical expenditures.
