Kyle shot and killed two men on August 25, 2020, during unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin during Black Lives Matter protests that took place just one mile south of his home in Antioch, Illinois. He also took part in local police cadet programs and expressed his support for the Blue Lives Matter movement on social media. According to his attorney’s statement, Rittenhouse learned about a local business owner looking for assistance in defending his car dealership. Rittenhouse and his friend Dominick David therefore armed themselves with rifles and went to assist the business owner. Rittenhouse announced the Media Accountability Project, also known as TMAP, in February 2022 during another interview on Tucker Carlson Tonight, saying: Rittenhouse launched a YouTube channel focusing on guns and the 2nd Amendment on October 16, 2022.
