He had appearances in Denver print and television advertisements prior to starring in the film Home Improvement. After that, he made an appearance at a Peter Seidman-directed showcase in New York City, where a professional talent representative saw him. This, along with his passion for acting, quickly led him to California, where he was chosen for the Home Improvement series as Brad, the eldest Taylor child. His persona was well-known for trying out various hairstyles and for always being the kid that gets into trouble. Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who portrayed his younger brother Randy in the sitcom, is one month his junior. Bryan had an appearance as Steve on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in the middle of Home Improvement.

He appeared as himself in a cameo on MTV’s I Bet You Will, when he wrestled female prisoners who had served their sentences. He played an ice hockey player in a Touched by an Angel episode in 2001. In 2003, he made another appearance on Smallville, where he portrayed Eric Marsh, a baseball player in high school who used steroids derived from meteor rock. After Jonathan Taylor Thomas, he was the second former cast member of Home Improvement to make a guest appearance on the program. In the 2005 television film Code Breakers on ESPN, Bryan played Bryan Nolan. Bryan also made appearances as a guest performer in Cold Case and Burn Notice in 2008, when he played a young guy who hired a hitman to kill his stepmother.

One of Bryan’s movie appearances was the school bully in the Sinbad comedy First Kid from 1996. He played Jack Carlisle in the 1995 film Magic Island and the 1998 television film The Principal Takes A Holiday. In addition, he played Eric in the 1999 film The Rage. In the 2005 film The Game of Their Lives, also titled The Miracle Match and centered around the 1950 US upset at the World Cup, he portrayed Harry Keough, a defender, with Gerard Butler. He appeared in two TV miniseries in 2009, one on NBC called Meteor and the other as a villain named Clay in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. In the Syfy channel film Thor: Hammer of the Gods, he also portrayed Thor. He was given a role among Justice’s Guardians.
