After Tracie began her acting career, her mother, Judy, became a talent agent. From 1974 to 1975, she starred as Christy Kennedy on the NBC television series Little House on the Prairie. She had originally tried out for the role of Laura Ingalls Wilder. She also appeared on TV shows such as Love, American Style, Marcus Welby, M.D., Family, Happy Days, and Here’s Boomer. Her film roles include “Debbie” in Friday the 13th Part III, released in 1982. Savage left acting after finishing the film to pursue journalism. Savage began her career as a reporter/anchor in 1985 first at WEYI-TV in Flint, Michigan, and then at WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio, where she worked from 1986 to 1991.
She worked at KCAL-TV after moving to Los Angeles in 1991. For seven years, beginning in March 1994, she worked as a reporter/anchor at NBC4 in Los Angeles, California. She has been the afternoon drive anchor for KFWB, a Los Angeles all-news radio station, since September 2001. Savage has covered the civil trials of Heidi Fleiss and O. J. Simpson. During the O. J. Simpson trial, Savage was called to the witness stand to reveal her confidential sources, and Judge Ito threatened her with jail time, but she invoked her journalistic rights to use the shield law to protect the source of her story.
