As a journalist, she traveled to India in 1983 to interview Phoolan Devi, known as “The Bandit Queen” of Central India at the time. She also co-founded the Hollywood restaurant Bono’s and the fashion boutique A Star is Worn. Coelho established Susie Enterprises, Inc. in 1997. She was a regular on The View and The Today Show. She hosted the HGTV television shows Surprise Gardener and Outer Spaces.
