In 1998 Osunsami began filing stories for “World News Tonight with Peter Jennings,” mainly targeting the southeastern United States. Among his many duties, he reported from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and then monitored the restoration efforts along the Gulf Coast. He has covered the search for and arrest of the alleged serial bomber Eric Robert Rudolph, the 2000 presidential election recount in Florida, the court battle that surrounded six black teens identified as the Jena 6 in 2007, the collapse of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford in 2009, the allegations of sexual coercion against Mega-Church chief Eddie Long, the 2011 tornados that killed more than 200 people in Florida.

Osunsami was the reporter for the Emmy Award-winning broadcast of “ABC 2000: The Millennium” and won numerous awards for his reporting from the National Association of Black Journalists and the Columbia School of Journalism. Prior to joining ABC News, Osunsami was a Seattle reporter for the ABC affiliate KOMO-TV and a reporter and an NBC subsidiary, WOOD-TV, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He has won many awards from the Associated Press and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for his work at WOOD-TV. Osunsami’s early career in television began with the then-ABC affiliate WREX in Rockford, Illinois, where he was a reporter and weather forecaster for the weekend.
