Steve Easterbrook Accusations and Dismissal
In November 2019, the Board of Directors of McDonald voted to remove Easterbrook as the CEO since he breached corporate policy on personal behavior by establishing a relationship with a company employee. In August 2020, McDonald’s filed an action against Easterbrook accusing him of lying with subordinate employees and trying to recover his over $40 million in severance pay.
The company claimed that the year before he was dismissed, Easterbrook had sexual relations with three women and gave a stock option worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to one of them. Easterbrook was also accused of receiving and sending sexually explicit photos and videos of various women including the three alleged relationships with his company e-mail account. The prosecution seeks to change the reason for the removal of Easterbrook to “for cause” allowing the company to recover its compensation payments.
