Shaina Humphries Career

Shaina joins us from KCCI-TV in Des Moines, Iowa, where she worked as an anchor and reporter for several years. Shaina experienced the thrills and spills of covering four major election cycles in Iowa while working for KCCI. She like Iowa’s political landscape, which was both exciting and weird at times, as well as the access to candidates offered by the state’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.

In addition to her work as the station’s 9 pm anchor, Shaina oversaw KCCI’s yearlong State of Addiction campaign, reporting nearly solely on Iowa’s opioid addiction problem. She presented dozens of anecdotes of addiction, recovery, and the complex function of opioids in modern medicine during that time. She moderated a 90-minute primetime show with families affected by opioid addiction, physicians and healthcare experts, local and federal law enforcement, and emergency responders that was nominated for an Emmy. She is most proud of these stories because of the community awareness they helped to raise and the relationships she was able to establish as a result of them.

Shaina was recently rewarded with an Upper Midwest Emmy Award for her work on a roundtable discussion about the #MeToo movement’s early impact. Shaina enjoys being active and getting outside when she is not working. She developed a passion for biking in Iowa, notably while riding across the state on RAGBRAI, each summer; and she dabbled with running, finishing the Chicago marathon before quitting. She adores traveling and has a mile-long bucket list.
