Elrod chose to become an actor after seeing the film Top Gun. In April 2004, he moved to Los Angeles to seek a career as an actor. Eventually, his small roles in CSI: NY, Days of Our Lives, and Paris Hilton’s “Nothing In This World” music video brought him to the attention of the casting crew of Men in Trees, in which he played Anne Heche’s friend, occasional roommate, and sometimes love interest “Cash.”He appeared in the films Home Run and Lone Survivor in 2013. In 2016, he appeared on Grey’s Anatomy as Meredith’s new man. On August 1, 2016, he was cast in Chicago Fire as celebrity Travis Brenner.
He finally became Vice President of Sales for a technology company after co-founding his own marketing firm with a friend. After witnessing the film Top Gun (1986), he understood that acting was his true calling. He moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in an acting class six days a week.
