Ronnie DeVoe is an American singer, rapper, and actor who was a member of the R&B/pop group New Edition as well as the R&B/hip hop group Bell Biv DeVoe. In the early 1980s, DeVoe was a member of the R&B/pop group New Edition. In 1984, he and his band released their self-titled debut album, which included the hit single “Cool It Now.”

DeVoe was the group’s second-to-last member, having been brought in by his uncle and choreographer Brooke Payne. In 1981, the group finished second in a talent show, catching the attention of record producer Maurice Starr, who signed them to his Streetwise record label. From the mid to late 1980s, New Edition was the best-selling boy band. Following the dissolution of New Edition in 1990, DeVoe and fellow New Edition members Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins formed the R&B/hip-hop group Bell Biv DeVoe. Bell Biv DeVoe’s debut album Poison, released in 1990, sold over 5 million copies and produced five hit singles, including “Poison” and “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?” Hootie Mack, DeVoe’s follow-up album, was released in 1993.
DeVoe reunited with the other original members of New Edition in 1996 to release the album Home Again, which was followed by a world tour that ended in 1997. DeVoe and Bell Biv DeVoe released BBD in 2001. Three Stripes was released in 2017 by DeVoe and Bell Biv DeVoe. DeVoe began appearing as a guest on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2018. When Season 11 premiered on November 4, 2018, his wife Shamari joined the cast as a regular. DeVoe still performs and records with New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, and he is a co-owner of DeVoe Broker Associates, an Atlanta, Georgia-based real estate agency.
