She won a prestigious Quill Award in her first year of television reporting for her coverage of Victoria’s January 2003 bushfires. Maddern took over as Seven Afternoon News presenter in September 2005, succeeding David Johnston until the program relocated to the network’s Sydney studios.

Maddern returned to present Seven Afternoon News in January 2013, with production moving back to Melbourne, replacing Samantha Armytage. Melissa Doyle and Matt White took her position in August 2013. Maddern replaced Nick Etchells as Sunrise’s Melbourne correspondent in March 2014.
