Castro made her acting debut in an episode of the TV series Third Watch. She then starred as the daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in Kevin Smith’s 2004 picture Jersey Girl. She appears in the independent film Little Fugitive and the 2005 episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit titled “Alien”. Castro played Liv’s friend South Salamanca in two episodes of Liv & Maddie from the second season (“BFF-A-Rooney” and “SPARF-A-Rooney”). In 2006, she was cast as Nicole in the music video for Ludacris’ song “Runaway Love” alongside Mary J. Blige, in which she plays a mistreated, self-conscious teenager who runs away. She later appeared in the 2007 independent film Tracks of Color.
She appears in the 2009 film The Ministers, which stars John Leguizamo. Raquel also spent many years dancing with her younger brother on Long Island. Castro was a contestant in the first season of the reality television singing competition program The Voice. She was chosen in the Blind Audition round and coached by Christina Aguilera. She made it to the first round of the Live performances before being eliminated alongside Lily Elise in favor of Frenchie Davis and Beverly McClellan. Castro recorded a cover of Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” and uploaded it to YouTube. Castro has also named Christina Aguilera and Selena as her inspirations and important influences.
Castro released her debut track, “Diary”. According to her YouTube channel, Alyssa Bonagura and Ted Bruner co-wrote the song. It was created by J Chris Griffin. It debuted on iTunes and CDBaby on February 1, 2012. She posted the music video for “Diary” on YouTube and created a dance remix of the song, which was published on March 11, 2012. The remix was titled “Diary (J Chris Griffin Remix)”. She’s also working on her debut record. Castro sang the theme song for Netflix’s original series Carmen Sandiego. Castro also appeared on season 2 of NBC’s Songland, where she offered her song “Wrong Places” to H.E.R., who chose it to include on her album.
