Paul Scheer is an American comedian, actor, filmmaker, and podcast host best known for his work on FX/FXX’s The League and Showtime’s comedic series Black Monday. Scheer has also co-created and appeared in MTV’s Human Giant and Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV::, as well as recurring parts on ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat and HBO’s Veep.

Scheer joined Jeff and Jackie Marcus Schaffer’s semi-scripted FX comedy The League in 2009, which follows a group of pals in a fantasy football league. Scheer plays Dr. Andre Nowzick, a wealthy plastic surgeon whose naivety makes him the target of numerous jokes. Scheer co-wrote several episodes with co-star Nick Kroll, including “The Anniversary Party,” “Expert Witness,” “The Out of Towner,” and “Tailgate.” He also co-wrote “Bringer Show” with Stephen Rannazzisi and was the sole credited writer of episode 81, “The Block.” The series premiered on October 29, 2009, and aired for seven seasons till December 2015.

In 2005, Scheer began making short films with comedians Rob Huebel, Aziz Ansari, and Jason Woliner. Their initial videos were called Shutterbugs and Illusionators. Huebel and Ansari acted in Shutterbugs as talent agents for child performers, while Ansari and Scheer played Criss Angel-style magicians in Llusionators. In mid-2006, MTV approved the trio’s sketch series Human Giant. The series premiered on April 5, 2007, and ran for two seasons from 2007 to 2008, addressing comic aspects of modern life and pop culture.

Scheer appeared in Showtime’s Black Monday pilot in 2018. The show is an ensemble period comedy about the 1987 Wall Street meltdown that premiered on Showtime on January 20, 2019. Scheer plays Keith, a closeted stockbroker who was supposed to die in the first season. The narrative was later revised. Black Monday ran for three seasons, culminating in 2021.
