He retired from the Air Force as a Captain and joined the Georgia Air National Guard. He began working as a Chief Assistant District Attorney in 1975. He became a Superior Court Judge twelve years later. English resigned in May 2010 after it was revealed that he did nothing when a fellow judge, Johnnie Caldwell, was sexually harassing an attorney in court. The disclosure of the mishandling of the sexual harassment case led to the public disclosure of an incident in 2008 in which English was caught in a sexual act in a parked car with a public defender who had appeared in over 200 cases in his court.

The incident was captured on a police car’s dash camera and confirmed by District Attorney Scott Ballard. After English retired in 2013, the Georgia Court of Appeals ordered that several of his cases be retried because the original trials could have been tainted by his inappropriate relationship with the defense attorney. The retrials involved serious criminal charges such as armed robbery, aggravated assault, and aggravated child molestation.

Paschal English Survivor

English developed a close relationship with Neleh Dennis, a Utah teenager that English regarded as his daughter, while they were both competing on Survivor. They were both involved in the crucial turning point of the season, when the three outsiders and the English-Dennis pair, who would not have been expected to bond together, toppled the four-team dominant alliance. English and Dennis were at the center of this crucial moment in the development of the Survivor strategy. English carried on, prevailing over a number of challenges and preventing the four enemies of his improvised alliance from being systematically eliminated. During a brief family visit during this time, he met Beverly, his future wife. During the reunion show, the two of them celebrated their deeply personal embrace.

Subsequent to destroying the whole opponent partnership, there were five hopefuls remaining. English and Dennis were successful in influencing Kathy Vavrick-O’Brien, the swing vote, to advance to the next round. However, Towery and Vavrik-O’Brien came to an agreement after the other contestant, Vecepia Towery, obtained immunity immediately to ensure her place in the final three. They both cast votes to remove Dennis, while English and Dennis cast votes to remove Vavrik-O’Brien. The contestants expressed uncertainty regarding the outcome of such a tie. After that, the tie was broken with the new rules; Everyone, with the exception of Towery, who was immune, would be subjected to a random rock draw in which two contestants would survive and one would be eliminated if English and Towery were unable to decide which of the two other contestants to eliminate.

Towery was immune to a rock draw, so she had no reason to avoid it. English was unwilling to give up his ally, but he could have avoided it by betraying her. English was the lucky rock when he, Dennis, and Vavrik-O’Brien drew rocks. He was the 13th player eliminated from the game and finished in fourth place.

He was then evacuated ahead of the subsequent Tribal Council, which he would have attended otherwise as a jury member. English was treated, and he got back in time to see Dennis and Towery fight in the end. He cast a decision in favor of Dennis, however, she lost, 4-3. English did not receive a single negative vote throughout the season. At the conclusion of the reunion show, he and the other contestants received new automobiles.
