Robson worked in a variety of roles during the next four years, including photojournalist assistant and copywriter for an advertising agency. She then went to London on a working trip, where she worked as a journalist and an editorial assistant for a magazine publishing business. She returned to Australia in 1989, after three years in London, to work as an assistant editor and feature writer for Personal Success magazine. Robson joined Seven News as a general news reporter in 1990, but three weeks later she was elevated to presenting news on Tonight Live, which was hosted by comedian Steve Vizard. She also hosted Seven’s Late News and Weekend News bulletins, as well as reporting for the current affairs show Real Life.

She was also the program’s summer host until it was canceled in late 1994. She then hosted Summer Diary, a brief fill-in show. Robson visited the United States in 1995 but returned to Australia soon after to produce Our Victoria, a travel show aimed at the Victorian market.
