His son, Tommy Darmody, was born during the conflict. After returning to Atlantic City, Jimmy worked as Nucky’s driver and bodyguard. He orchestrated the Hammonton hijacking and was forced to hide in Chicago.

He eventually returned to Atlantic City to serve as Nucky’s primary enforcer. Jimmy reconnected with his father when Kaestner survived a poisoning attempt and tried to retake control of Atlantic City. Nucky, however, continued to retaliate, and Jimmy’s adversary, Manny Horvitz, murdered Angela. Jimmy, distraught, turned against Gillian and murdered the Commodore when he attempted to intercede. Jimmy tried to reconcile with Nucky, but he assassinated him at the Atlantic City War Memorial in August 1921.

He appeared as Matthew in the 2003 romantic drama film The Dreamers. Matthew, an American exchange student in Paris, meets the free-spirited twins Théo and Isabelle at a demonstration protesting Henri Langlois’ firing. They bond over their love of film, and Matthew embraces their sexuality, allowing them to live happily. They have fun discussions about movies, music, and Maoism. Matthew and Isabelle fall in love, and Matthew pursues a relationship with her independently.
