Michael Buie Career

Buie appeared in Mystery, Alaska in 1999, playing Connor Banks, a Canadian ice hockey player who is arrested for a shooting. Buie informed the Los Angeles Times that the ensemble studied hockey so hard that many of the film’s ice rink sequences were performed by the actors themselves rather than stand-ins. Buie described himself as “a mediocre hockey player who gets to live the dream in this film,” saying he was “extremely proud of that.” Buie attended the New York premiere of The Next Three Days, a feature film in which he played Mick Brennan, alongside co-stars Elizabeth Banks, Ty Simpkins, Russell Crowe, and Moran Atias.

In the 2019 film Bombshell, Buie played Fox News presenter Bret Baier, who was embroiled in the Roger Ailes scandal at the conservative network. In a photo essay, USA Today contrasted his appearance to that of Baier, as well as the other main cast members to their Fox News identities. In a wide-ranging, 24-minute conversation with Adnan Virk on the Cinephile with Adnan Virk podcast in December 2019, Buie covered his many film roles, as well as his comments on other recent films and their casts, and his long friendship with Russell Crowe. When asked about his portrayal as Bret Baier in Bombshell, Buie stated that he studied some of the Fox newsman’s speaking patterns prior to filming, but did not speak with Baier until after the shoot was completed.

Buie’s first part was as Mike in the 1994 television film For the Love of Nancy, about an anorexic adolescent played by Tracey Gold. He also portrayed Paul Dawson in the ninth season of the long-running ABC television series Grey’s Anatomy and King Agon in Marvel’s Inhumans, which aired on ABC.
