Following her appearances in Love of Life, The Edge of Night, and Somerset, Bassey changed her stage name from “Joan Bassie” to “Jennifer Bassey.” Jennifer was inspired by Dr. Jennifer Stark, a character she played on Love of Life. Bassey was one of several actors brought in momentarily to replace Eileen Fulton as Lisa on As the World Turns while Fulton was unwell in the early 1990s. She first appeared as Marian Colby on ABC’s All My Children (1983-1987, 1989, 1995-2009, 2011). She appeared on All My Children for nearly 20 years and was a fan favorite.
Bassey appeared on All My Children in both contract and recurring roles until the show was canceled by the network in 2011, but did not appear on the show’s brief online iteration. Bassey did not appear on the Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family broadcast on February 2, 2017, for the All My Children reunion. Home & Family, on the other hand, used a video of Bassey with actor Michael E. Knight from an infamous All My Children storyline in which Knight’s young Tad Martin had affairs with both Marian Colby and her daughter Liza (played by Marcy Walker). Bassey has also been in a variety of prime-time television episodes, including recurring roles on Falcon Crest and Grey’s Anatomy, as well as guest appearances on In the Heat of the Night, Who’s the Boss?, and The Office.
Waxwork (1988), The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), Dunston Checks In (1996), and 27 Dresses (2007) are among her cinematic credits. Bassey returned to daytime television in both traditional and new media forms in 2017, joining the casts of ABC soap opera General Hospital as Quinn Danvers and Daytime Emmy-winning digital soap opera Anacostia as Beverly Newman.
