Doran then worked for Network Ten in Melbourne and Adelaide for a number of years as a general news reporter and then as a police reporter. Doran was an important part of Network Ten’s coverage of a number of natural disasters, including the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch, the deadly explosion at the Pike River mine in the west of New Zealand, the tragedy on Christmas Island with a boat, and the tsunami that destroyed North-East Japan.

Doran was given the position of host of Ten News at Five in October 2011: Weekend with Natarsha Belling, but left the bulletin in November 2012 when it switched to a format with only Belling as the presenter. With Ten News, he continued to serve as a senior reporter and fill-in presenter.

Doran was made the host of Ten Eyewitness News Early and Ten Eyewitness News Morning in November 2013. On Ten Eyewitness News Early, Hermione Kitson took Doran’s place in January 2014.
