St. Patrick relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1994 to pursue a career as an actor. He began his career in Los Angeles as a personal trainer, before joining the West Coast Theatre Ensemble in 1996. After appearing in his first stage production, Full Court Press, an agent recognized him and cast St. Patrick in the latter’s film debut, Steel Sharks (1997), as a Navy officer. St. Patrick was cast as Detective Marcus Taggert on the soap series General Hospital in 1997, replacing Réal Andrews. His tenure in the role was brief, and Andrews returned as Marcus in 1998. St. Patrick was unimpressed with Marcus’ persona, describing him as “one-dimensional.”He appeared in another soap opera, All My Children, as police lieutenant Adrian Sword.
He appeared as a guest on Beverly Hills, 90210, Diagnosis: Murder, NYPD Blue, and Crossing Jordan. St. Patrick earned the role of Keith Charles in the HBO series Six Feet Under in 2001, playing a gay black guy in an interracial relationship with David Fisher (Michael C. Hall).
