Dizzia is the daughter of Lorraine (née Bladis) and John Paul Dizzia. She was reared in Cranford, New Jersey. Her sister is a lawyer. She graduated from Kent Place School in 1993 and received the Drama Award. She studied theatre at Cornell University. She earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, San Diego.

She portrayed Polly Harper, Piper Chapman’s best friend in Seasons One and Two on Orange Is the New Black in Seasons One and Two. She was previously married to Pete Harper and is currently in a relationship with Piper’s ex-fiancé, Larry Bloom. Emily attaches a laptop to the building’s power box and turns off machinery to uncover locker C255, which provides a cure for Piper.They are pursued by robot guard dogs, but Emily stops them just in time.They drive to Bay Harbor Hospital, where Emily uploads a disk to an exabyte disk and orders them to look for the docket on Piper’s wrist. Jo refuses to believe Piper is a robot, so Emily leaves the decision up to her.
