Following graduation, he obtained work with KMPH TV 26 in Visalia in his chosen field. His parents, who had immigrated from another country, were pleased. He was employed as a commercial copywriter in October 1971, the month KMPH began airing. At the time, it wasn’t a Fox affiliate. For six years, he wrote, produced, shot, edited, and acted in commercials and promos, as well as hosting “Dialing for Dollars.” His jackets were more spectacular than Regis’, yet he never revealed as much as Regis does.
His first day at Fremont Elementary School, where he was Student Body Vice President, was memorable. He campaigned on the promise of removing all the gum from beneath the tables and instituting a three-day school week! It was a landslide triumph. Everyone was giggling. He had a brilliant idea.
