Kimbal Musk made his first foray into the world of entrepreneurship and investment in 1995 with College Pro Painters, a residential painting company. In the same year, he and Elon co-founded Zip2, which served as an online guide and provided electronic versions of the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune newspapers. Compaq purchased the company from them in 1999 for $307 million. Musk went on to become a prominent investor in the software and technology industries.
