Karamo Brown is a reality television host, author, actor, and activist from the United States. Brown debuted on the MTV reality show The Real World: Philadelphia in 2004, becoming the first openly gay black man cast on a reality show.

Brown returned to reality television in 2016 on TV One’s The Next 15, which followed him and five other reality stars. Brown has appeared as a guest host on HLN’s Dr. Drew On Call, YouTube’s The Young Turks, as the host and producer of HuffPost Live for the Huffington Post, and as a recurring guest host on Access Hollywood Live. Brown joined the Own Show as a host and segment producer in 2014.

Brown hosted Are You The One: Second Chances on MTV. Brown is the Netflix revival of Queer Eye’s culture expert. In February 2018, Netflix released the first season. Brown released her memoir Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope in March 2019. Brown appeared in Taylor Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video in June 2019.

Brown appeared on the 28th season of the celebrity dance competition Dancing with the Stars in 2019. He was paired with Jenna Johnson, a professional dancer. Brown and Johnson were the fourth and final couple to be eliminated. Former Trump White House press secretary Sean Spicer was also a contestant on the show, and he was viewed as a divisive and contentious choice. Brown came out in public to “defend” him, calling him “a good guy” and “a friend.” He even said he was “proud of him.” Many people, including author Roxane Gay, chastised Brown for normalizing Spicer and his work in the White House.

Brown stated that he did not appreciate Spicer acting as a mouthpiece for many lies in Trump’s service. Brown strategically had transgender friends over and invited Spicer to socialize in his DWTS trailer, which shared a wall with him. Later, he would explain to Spicer how actions and policies opposing LGBTQ rights affect those people. Brown stated that he felt he could connect with Spicer because “he has the ability to understand where others are coming from and to help them become more open-minded and educated.”
Brown began sharing some of his best advice about promoting self-esteem to students at various universities in 2018.

Karamo Brown collaborated with Honest Company alumni in 2020 to launch MANTL, a premium personal care brand for bald and balding men. Brown was named to the Ebony Power 100 List in 2020. He was a judge on an episode of Netflix’s Is It Cake?, which premiered in March 2022.

During the 2021-22 season, Brown appeared as a guest host on several episodes of Maury. Brown was announced as host Maury Povich’s successor in March 2022; Povich retired, and Brown hosted a new talk show for NBCUniversal Television Distribution, Karamo, which began recording in August and premiered September 19.
