A year later, she was named one of the region’s “One Hundred People to Watch.” She has won a regional Emmy for anchoring, a Regional Murrow award, an Eric Sevareid award, and three City Pages “Best TV Newscaster” awards.
Nelson grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and graduated with honors from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1990. Nelson earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and history from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1994. She donates her time to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Treehouse, Christian Recovery Center, Wooddale Church, and Feed My Starving Children, and from 2002 to 2005 she served on the Indiana University School of Journalism Alumni Board.
