In August 2013, Cumming joined guitarist Nick Kivlen and drummer Olive Faber in Sunflower Bean, a power trio that began as a spin-off of Turnip King and was located in Glen Head, New York. The next year, the band relocated to Bushwick, Brooklyn, and became a part of the borough’s burgeoning “DIY” culture, performing over 80 performances and winning the title of “Hardest-Working Band of 2014” in New York City.
All Songs Considered’s Bob Boilen and The New York Times’ Jon Pareles praised the band’s performance at the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon, writing, “New York is still home to bands as varied as Sunflower Bean, whose music suggests what might have happened if psychedelia had emerged after punk and the Police rather than before.”
Later that year, the band released their debut EP Show Me Your Seven Secrets and signed to Fat Possum Records. Human Ceremony was released on February 5, 2016, to mostly positive reviews; “I Was a Fool,” the first single from Sunflower Bean’s second album Twentytwo In Blue, appeared on NPR’s “Songs We Love” series on November 3, 2017, to mostly positive reviews. Mom + Pop Music in the United States and Lucky Number Music internationally published Twentytwo In Blue on March 23, 2018. In 2021, she worked with other musicians and was featured on the Manic Street Preachers’ album The Ultra Vivid Lament.

Cumming’s fashion career was reinforced in February 2014, when she was requested to walk in Yves Saint Laurent’s Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2014 show in Paris, despite doing infrequent modeling assignments during the Supercute! era. Hedi Slimane, the creative director of Saint Laurent, hired Cumming to an exclusive modeling contract and used her in three campaigns and six shows for the brand; Cumming was dubbed “Hedi Slimane’s muse” in the press at the time.
