Jim Rosenfield Career

Rosenfield began his television reporting career in 1981, after graduating from Duke University. He began his career with WTVD-TV in Durham, North Carolina, as a general assignment reporter. He moved to Houston’s KTRK-TV to work as a reporter and later an anchor. He eventually relocated to Chicago, where he worked as a reporter and weekend anchor for WLS-TV. He moved to New York in 1998 and joined WCBS-TV, where he co-anchored the noon newscast with Cindy Hsu and the 5 p.m. program with Lisa Cooley (later Lisa Hill). He left WCBS in April 2000 due to a contract dispute and went to rival station WNBC-TV, where he co-anchored the 5pm program (“Live at Five”) with Sue Simmons.

This move allowed Rosenfield to become the lead male anchor at a local New York station, which would not have been possible if he stayed at WNBC (where longtime anchor Chuck Scarborough is set to anchor at 6pm for years to come). Rosenfield and Roz Abrams co-anchored CBS 2 News at 5 and CBS 2 News at 11 from June 2005 to April 2006. In April 2006, he dropped the 5PM newscast and joined Dana Tyler at 6PM, while Tyler continued to host the 11PM show. Abrams had moved to noon and 5 p.m. (but is no longer at the station). In June 2007, new station managers transferred him and Dana Tyler to the WCBS noon and 6pm newscasts.

In May 2008, the station’s management fired him as the noon and 6PM newscaster due to significant CBS budget cuts across the owned division.Rosenfield was anticipated to leave the station as it had breached his contract. Rosenfield joined WRCTV as a weekend news anchor in Washington, D.C. on June 1, 2012. Rosenfield began working as a weekday anchor at WCAU TV in Philadelphia in September 2013. His last day on air was December 23, 2022, and his departure was part of buyout offers by NBC. On December 8, 2022, WCAU-TV announced that Rosenfield would be leaving the station after 9 years to “be closer to home and pursue new opportunities.” He will be moving back to New York to be closer to family, but he hasn’t made any specific announcements about his future career plans.
