Jim Brandstatter is a sports announcer from the United States. He is the Michigan Wolverines football team’s radio play-by-play announcer. He worked as a color commentator for the Detroit Lions for 31 years, until the 2017 season ended.

He was one of five brothers. In 1936, his father, Art Brandstatter, Sr., was awarded an All-American fullback for the Michigan State Spartans. His father went on to become a police officer in Detroit. He was the Dean of the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. He was then promoted to the position of Director of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. Art Brandstatter, Jr., Jim’s older brother, was a defensive end for the Spartans from 1959 to 1961. Despite his family’s history at MSU, Jim Brandstatter chose to attend the University of Michigan, an in-state competitor.

In 1975, when the squad was renamed the Lansing Capitals, he was a member of the team.
