Doba was hired as a producer for Newswatch 50, a local TV station in Watertown, New York, two days after graduating from college. Doba first appeared on the air on 9/11. She was visiting her family in Queens and, according to an interview, “picked up a camcorder and started walking the streets of Queens.” Doba faced racist backlash at the start of her career because broadcast news was not diverse. Doba recalled her news director receiving emails that read, among other things, “Why is the terrorist telling us the news?”Doba relocated to Savannah, Georgia, to work at a radio station. She later worked as the weekend anchor for WFSB TV in Hartford, Connecticut.
Doba was the first to anchor a national show at 4 a.m. and one of the first Pakistani Americans to do so. As a national correspondent, she covered financial and political stories across the United States. Doba was the host of CBS’s “The National Desk with Doba.”Doba moved to Cheddar News, a financial news network, in 2019, where she now works as a correspondent and anchor. Doha has stated that she has more creative freedom in selecting stories and interviewing guests in this position. Doba spent five years as an adjunct professor at Capital Community College and the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, in addition to her journalistic work.
