She became the foreign editor of the Dutch public news network NOS Journaal in 2004, after studying American history at the University of Leiden. She has also hosted the news show NOS Journaal 3 since the end of 2007. Jinek has been presenting the NOS’s morning and afternoon news bulletins since the autumn of 2008. In May of that year, she collaborated with fellow editor Monique van Hoogstraten, the editor of “Het maakbare nieuws,” a collection of eighteen stories with foreign journalists written in response to journalist-writer Joris Luyendijk’s book “Het zijn net mensen” (Almost Human).
She is well known for her coverage of the United States, beginning with her work as a co-host of the NOS show ‘Amerika Kiest’ (America Votes), which aired from the Netherlands on November 4 and 5, 2008. She and Philip Freriks reported from the Occidental Restaurant near the White House. Jinek spoke to TV guide Mikro Gids about Amerika Kiest’s preparation. I was terrified. All eyes seemed to be on me. I just thought to myself, “Oh my God, let me do well.” Very well!”She hosted the live broadcast of Barack Obama’s inauguration as the 44th President of the United States on Nederland 1 on January 20, 2009.
Jinek was announced as one of the main presenters of the new news show Nieuwsuur (News Hour) in early 2010, alternating with anchor Twan Huys; however, her relationship with former criminal defense lawyer Bram Moszkowicz sparked controversy about a conflict of interest, as Moszkowicz frequently appeared in the news; as a result, Jinek agreed to step down. She made her radio debut on June 4, 2010, for the show Met het Oog op Morgen [nl] (A Look at Tomorrow), which she hosted every Monday night until 2014. Jinek delivered her final NOS bulletin at 6 p.m. on August 28, 2011. Jinek got her own late-night talk show, “Jinek,” at 23:00 on KRO-NCRV in 2015.
Jinek has switched from KRO-NCRV to RTL4 since 2020. The talkshow host alternates with Beau van Erven Dorens on this commercial television station with her late night talkshow of the same name.Jinek announced in July 2023 that she had signed a four-year contract with AVROTROS, where she would begin working in early 2024 and develop her own programs.
