His first film appearance was in the 2000 picture Tribulation. Knudsen featured in three episodes of The Guardian as a guest performer in 2001. He was nominated for a Young Artist Award for this performance. In 2003, Knudsen appeared in the television series Mental Block. He played Leroy “Lefty” in the film adaptation of Youth in Revolt, Joel Pink in The Walking Dead, and Lucas “Crash” Wilson in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the lead singer of the fictional band Crash and the Boys. In 2005, he co-starred in the horror movie Saw II. From 2006 to 2008, he played Dale Turner, a series regular on the CBS series Jericho.
Knudsen played Robbie in the 2011 slasher flick Scream 4. Knudsen played Ryan in the late-2012 film The Barrens, which also starred Stephen Moyer from True Blood.
