Danny caught the home renovation bug at the age of nine and purchased his first tool, a jigsaw, from a mail-order catalog. In 1975, he relocated to Mobile, Alabama to attend the University of South Alabama, but his side work as a handyman quickly grew into a full-time vocation. Lipford Construction, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2018, was founded by him in 1978. Lipford joined The Weather Channel as a home improvement expert in 2000. He provided advice and information on a number of household topics in daily short pieces shown throughout the week. Lipford also covered weather-related home subjects for the Weather Channel, such as hurricane preparedness and tornado recovery.
He has also appeared live from Traverse City, Michigan, Fish Creek, Wisconsin, and other sites across the country for special opening day of season broadcasts. Lipford began writing for Better Homes and Gardens magazine and bhg.com in 2009, including articles, essays, and videos. On LIVE with Regis and Kelly, Lipford provided spring cleaning techniques, moderated “Thermostat Wars” on The Rachael Ray Show, and explained how to safely hang Christmas decorations on Inside Edition.
