Cane co-edited and contributed to the anthology For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Still Not Enough: Coming of Age, Coming Out, and Coming Home, published in 2012. He also contributed to the book Where Did Our Love Go: African-American Love and Relationships. Cane developed, directed, and produced the original BET.com documentary Holler If You Hear Me: Black and Gay in the Church in 2015. The film, which premiered at NYU in November 2015, investigated homophobia in the black church by addressing the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and religion. The film was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Digital Journalism in 2016 and a Black Reel Award for Best Television Documentary or Special. On the 24th of February, 2016.
