Such sites are thought to allow people to easily purchase potentially dangerous prescriptions and are not regulated by the Care Quality Commission due to a loophole in Romania that allows them to issue prescriptions through third-party doctors. Arlene Foster, the First Minister of Northern Ireland, filed a defamation suit against Jessen in 2020 after a tweet in December 2019 falsely claimed she was having an extramarital affair. Two weeks after it was posted, the tweet was removed. Foster claimed in court that the tweet was sent at a time when some anonymous Twitter accounts claimed she was having an affair with one of her security guards. It was also claimed that Jessen had been contacted 13 times about it via email and letter but had not responded.

After Jessen lost the case in May 2021, Mr. Justice McAlinden awarded Foster £125,000 in damages and full costs, describing Jessen’s actions as “an outrageously bad libel.” The judge also said that Jessen’s failure to retract or apologize for the libel was an aggravating factor.
