In 2015, his video “Unapologetically Southern” went viral. On BlazeTV, he currently hosts The Chad Prather Show. Prather ran for Governor of Texas against incumbent Greg Abbott in the Republican gubernatorial primary in 2022, but was defeated on March 1, 2022. Prather was approached in 2013 by the fledgling television network Ride TV about hosting a comedy travel show called “It’s My Backyard.” Prather began using social media outlets to promote the show while working on it.
He’s best known for his viral YouTube video “Unapologetically Southern,” which has been featured on Fox News and Country Living. Prather has also appeared on Fox and Friends, MSN, CNN, and Nash Country Weekly, among others. Prather has been dubbed a “armchair philosopher.” Chad Prather and Fort Worth, Texas comedian Cowboy Bill Martin launched the Kings of Cowtown World Comedy Tour in 2016. Prather released the satirical song “I’ve Got Friends in Safe Spaces” in 2017, co-written with Steve McGrew, based on Garth Brooks’ hit “Friends in Low Places,” about progressive college students immuring themselves in safe spaces. Prather also serves as the host of “The Chad Prather Show” on BlazeTV.
In response to incumbent Governor Greg Abbott’s policy of mandating face coverings throughout his state in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in Texas, Prather announced his candidacy for the 2022 Texas gubernatorial election in 2020. Prather’s weekly podcast on Blaze Radio Network included the words “pro-life,” “pro-gun,” and a promise to “defend First Amendment speech rights against those in academia, big tech media organizations, and politics who seek to silence conservatives.” Prather has stated that he believes the issue of Texas secession from the United States should be put to a vote.
