Bo shared two videos with his faraway friends and family in 2006, high on confidence after receiving accolades for his songs in school. Those videos got so successful that Break.com imitated them, and Bo became an instant sensation, with hundreds of thousands of views on those videos. Bo continued to upload new songs, the majority of which dealt with racism, homophobia, physical disability, and other related issues. His fan following grew, and Bo continued to make videos until his first major break came his way. Bo got his first major break in the form of ‘The World Stands Up’ for Comedy Central in January 2008, and his work was so engaging that he went on to secure a four-record deal with them.
Bo’s first EP, titled ‘Bo Fo Sho,’ was available for digital download, and his first full-length album, titled ‘Bo Burnham,’ was released in 2009. Since then, Bo has played live in front of crowds in several cities around the United States, including San Francisco and New York City, as well as internationally in London and Montreal. Bo was nominated for Best Comedy Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2010 for his stint ‘Words, Words, Words’. He didn’t win the award, but he did win the Panel Prize. Bo was contracted to create the film’s screenplay and worked really hard on it. He had an appearance as a student on the sitcom ‘Funny People’ in 2009. Burnham recorded a one-hour stand-up special for Comedy Central’s ‘House of Comedy’ project in 2010, for which many other stand-ups were hired. The show premiered in October 2010 and received positive reviews. Bo’s second special, titled ‘What,’ debuted in 2013 on Netflix and YouTube, earning over a million views on both platforms.
