Ashley is the Music Director of New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake. She moved to Kirksville, Missouri in 2008 after graduating. At KTVO-TV, she was a weekend meteorologist and general assignment reporter. In 2010, she relocated to Charleston, West Virginia. She worked at WCHS-TV/ Fox 11 as a weekend meteorologist. When she relocated to Cincinnati, she had to make a shift. Smith was a morning meteorologist for WSIL-TV in southern Illinois at the time. Smith worked as a meteorologist in Carterville for nearly five years. She also contributes stories to 13News Now’s Making A Mark franchise, which features inspirational situations and people from around Hampton Roads. ‘Coastal Connections,’ a community outreach show on 13News Now, is hosted by Ashley. She started as a Traffic Reporter for Daybreak in 2013 and was nominated for a regional Emmy Award.
Ashley is the President of Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals, Inc., an affiliate branch of the National Association of Black Journalists. She’s also on the board of ‘Here for the Girls,’ a non-profit dedicated to helping young women affected by breast cancer. Ashley has spoken at a range of institutions, including services, schools, and community activities, as a keynote speaker. Ashley spent seven years competing in beauty pageants. In 2011, she was crowned Miss United States of America for the first time. She traveled over 25,000 miles, made over 235 appearances, and promoted her breast cancer awareness platform during that year.
