The series tells the narrative of Gypsy Blanchard, who uses a wheelchair owing to an illness. Her relationship with her overprotective mother deteriorates as she grows older and demands more independence. She rebels as her mother, who has committed her life to her care, becomes increasingly possessive, controlling, and violent, especially as she attempts to explore her sexuality.

The relationship becomes much more toxic when Gypsy uncovers more truths. She grew up believing she had cancer, only to realize that she was not sick at all. Her mother, Dee Dee, successfully tricked not only Gypsy, but also her family, friends, and medical experts into believing her child was sick. It is indicated that she has factitious disorder imposed on another, which is a behavioral disease in which a caretaker exaggerates or fabricates another person’s ailment. This disorder was originally classed as Munchausen syndrome by proxy, and it is still known by that name today. Gypsy eventually asks her boyfriend to murder her mother, and the story ends there.

Mercy Street

She appeared as Alice Green in the American period medical drama television series Mercy Street. Mary, a New England widow, is assigned as the chief nurse at an Alexandria hotel owned by the Southern Green family that has been converted into a Union military hospital. Doctors Hale and Foster dispute on modern medicine and treating Confederate and Union injured soldiers equally. Emma sneaks inside the hospital to inquire about her “beau” Frank Stringfellow and discovers her sister Alice’s beau, Tom Fairfax. Samuel Diggs, a free man, discreetly conducts emergency surgery, which Mary conceals.

Samuel is fascinated with Aurelia Johnson, a contraband slave, but she is mistreated by the tyrannical hospital steward Silas Bullen. Emma gets approved as a volunteer nurse, and her younger sister Alice discovers that her boyfriend Tom is a patient in a bleak psychiatric state. Anne, previously the most efficient nurse, is intimidated by Mary and conspires against her alongside her lover Dr. Hale.

Jed passes his military medical exam and is tested when he treats his injured brother, a Confederate soldier. Mary discovers his morphine addiction and wishes to assist him with withdrawal. Mary seeks assistance from Jed after Aurelia becomes pregnant as a result of Silas’s actions. Jed saves Samuel from lynching and leaves town. Jed wants to get rid of Silas, but Byron is against it. Frank assists Byron in disposing of the chloroform used as anesthetics, while James Sr. is detained by the Union government.
