Plate is a social worker, author, and former child actress who appeared primarily in American television in the 1960s. Her television roles were almost entirely in popular programs. She was a popular casting choice and a well-known figure on American television. Her career peaked in 1964, when she was twelve years old. She made her acting debut in the 1960 Twilight Zone episode “Dust”. She reappeared in the 1961 episode “Night of the Meek”. She then appeared in episodes of 87th Precinct, Peter Gunn, and The Untouchables, returning to the latter in a subsequent episode in 1962, as well as Bonanza, Pete and Gladys, Hawaiian Eye, and Adventures in Paradise.
In 1963, she featured on The Danny Thomas Show and co-starred in Death Valley Days with Gilbert Roland. In 1964, she played “Amity,” the titular character in the S9E27 episode “Owney Tupper Had A Daughter” on Gunsmoke. She portrayed Nezhmet in a 1966 episode of I Spy. She starred in four episodes of the television series Combat!, including one in 1966 called for her character “Gitty”. In 1966, she played Greti Koska in Alfred Hitchcock’s Torn Curtain and Monkeys Go Home, a Disney film. She outgrown her career as a “child” actor when she was a teen, although she made one more cameo in The Night God Screamed in 1971.
Darvi, a certified clinical social worker (LCSW) in California, spent nearly 15 years at the Department of Veterans Affairs (2003–2017). She is a published author. In 2019, she wrote the internationally released Madness: In the Trenches of America’s Troubled Department of Veterans Affairs (Marshall Cavendish International).
