Amy Stone Career
In June 1989, Stone began her career as a producer at WDIV-TV in Detroit. She got her first on-camera job in September 1990 as a weekend news anchor for WLUC-TV in Marquette, Michigan. Stone joined the New England Sports Network (NESN) in March 1991 as the first host of SportsDesk. She began working as an on-site reporter for Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins games in 1993. She also filled in as a host on Sports Digest and the Red Sox pregame show. Stone began looking for work in Chicago after her spouse obtained a job there. She was hired by CLTV in 1994. She joined SportsChannel Chicago a year later. By 1997, SportsChannel had plans to feature Stone as a studio host.
She didn’t apply for any network positions because they required a lot of travel and Stone was afraid of flying.[1] She accepted a job at WMAQ-TV as a daily sports reporter and fill-in sports anchor. Stone was the only female sports reporter on a “Big Three” Chicago affiliate, the only one on a network affiliate in the top five metropolitan areas (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area), and one of three in the top ten television markets at the time of her hiring. Stone began working as a lifestyles reporter for WCBS-TV in New York City in May 2000. Stone resigned from WCBS in May 2005, following the birth of her second child.
